An exquisite Antique mid Victorian Mourning locket fashioned in Sterling Silver with beautiful embossed workmanship and an engraved border framed in Silver balls.
Ivy leaves have also been etched in the centre which represent an unbreakable bond, such as friendship or marriage, as in the Victorian rhyme 'Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee.'
The inside of the locket is complete with rims and windows along with two locks of hair that will have belonged to a beloved family member from long ago and preserved as a souvenir to remember them.
It’s a wonderful piece and complete with hallmarks on the back, some of which have been scratched over time but indicate the piece is of London Origin and made in 1864.
